Physical Education

Students in Kindergarten have a minimum of two 30 minute periods of physical education each week.  Grade 1-8 students participate in two 45 minute physical education classes for a total of 90 minutes each week.

The classes include instruction in team sports such as soccer and basketball, as well as individual fitness, rhythm, and coordination games. Encouraging a spirit of cooperation and good sportsmanship is foundational to our physical education instruction.  View the 2011-2012 schedule.

2011-2012 Perspective Statement for Physical Education

By Bill Toole

Hebrews 12: 1- 3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

This summer a good friend from high school suddenly passed away at the age of 47.  I often would tell stories about my friend to Cambridge students because he was such a funny guy.  The one thing that struck me was that our goal in high school was to practice very hard and to win a state championship in basketball.  The interesting thing was that all of the great memories I have about my friend did not happen on the basketball court.  It seems as I look back at this time in my life that the wins meant nothing, but the journey with Stu and my other high school friends was God given.

This year at Cambridge School I have the privilege of teaching your children to run their race with perseverance, and to pursue a higher call than winning games. What a blessing it is to teach at a school that wants your children to fix their eyes on Jesus, the ultimate prize. My hope and prayer is that each student will pursue this higher call and experience the joy that comes from being His child.

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
