Field Trips

Field trips play an important role in learning at Cambridge School.  Such experiences enhance students’ understanding of the created world and stimulate their ability to move between the concrete and the abstract.   These trips also serve to deepen and augment material studied, provide an opportunity to introduce a unit, and inspire students to learn.  Additional purposes also come into view:  building community among students, parents, and teachers; providing for interaction across age, class, and cultural divisions; engaging in service opportunities; and creating memories.  As field trips are considered to be an extension of the classroom, the standards of attendance, behavior, safety, and inclusiveness that apply to all areas of Cambridge School life also apply to field trips.

Our frequent field trips include visits to museums, historical sites, the theater, and many other cultural, educational and service experiences throughout the Baltimore/Washington area.

Beginning in fourth grade, our students’ field trips include overnight camping experiences and visits outside of the state. Our upper grade students participate in a Leadership Retreat in early September that emphasizes “servant leadership” within and beyond our community. These students spend their days and evenings engaging in team-building exercises, building friendships, and enjoying God’s beauty.  Highlights of the 8th grade curriculum have included a week of service spent in Nogales, Mexico, and several days and evenings in New York City.
